This adaptive reuse project converted an auto garage into a youth recreational sports center. The owner, having children who are avid sports players, recognized the need for an indoor sports facility in the Roxborough area.
The exterior structure and form were the only portions of this project that remained in this large commercial renovation. The vast building volume of the existing building provided perfect “bones” for this unique building use. A new clerestory system was installed to introduce natural light into the tall and deep structure, while providing solid surface walls along the ground level for recreational activities.
Inside the sports facility are multiple basketball courts, batting ranges, a rope course, an esports room, and a standard gym. A steel structure mezzanine and accessible lift was added within the building to provide additional usable area where the tall ceilings were not required.
Today the Elite Sports Factory is enjoyed for birthday parties, basketball tournaments, baseball training camps, and local school sport team practices.
