The iconic 20-story former Inquirer building in Center City Philadelphia underwent a significant renovation and repurposing transformation, a project made possible through the collaborative efforts of the architecture and interior design firm IEI Group (now a part of Designblendz), USA Architects, and the Daniel J. Keating Company. This extensive project was aimed at housing the City of Philadelphia’s new Police Headquarters, integrating a wide range of facilities and services. The building program included specialized divisions such as Homicide, Robbery, Police Support and Administrative Divisions, two relocated Police Districts, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the 911 Call Center serving both Police and Fire departments. Additionally, it accommodated the Morgue, the Department of Health Laboratory Services, and over 60 holding cells located in the basement. IEI Group played a crucial role in this transformation, focusing on the Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment selections and specifications. They were also instrumental in managing the relocation services, coordinating the intricate phased move of 1,200 staff members from 8 separate buildings into the renovated Philadelphia Public Services Building, thereby ensuring a seamless transition into this modernized and multi-functional facility.
