In the digital age, architectural design is no longer paper and pencil sketches. Thanks to ever-evolving technology, professional rendering artists are able to create three-dimensional models that turn an idea into a visual. Digitally rendered environments allow an artist to account for dimension and space, as well as see how objects interact with their environment in real-time. A 3D model of a project makes it easier for investors involved in the decision-making process to understand and identify any changes that need to be made.
Being in the field of architectural visualization takes loads of hard work and creativity. A Day in the Life of Director of Visualization at DesignBlendz
In a short interview with DesignBlendz’s Director of Visualization, Evan Gasparini, he shared what a typical day is like in his role, the path he took to pursue this career, and advice for anyone who may be interested in an architectural visualization career.
“Every day I get to coordinate with our team and our clients producing visualizations and renderings for architectural and product-based services.”
A large portion of Evan’s day consists of working with the visualization team; giving them feedback, and making sure all renderings are accurate and realistic, as well as consistently communicating with clients to keep them informed throughout the entire project.
Advice to Anyone Interested in Architectural Visualization
Evan started at DesignBlendz as an intern while he was still in school at Philadelphia University; he then stayed with the company, eventually working his way into his current position.
“I went to school for architecture a while before switching to industrial design. What I liked about both of those things was telling stories, and that’s what I’ve been able to do here at DesignBlendz. Getting the chance to do that made me realize what I actually love about the process.”
At times it can be challenging to find a place to start when choosing a career path, and in some cases, it could be as simple as trying out different hobbies. Evan shared that if he were to do anything differently going into his career, he would’ve gotten into photography as it helps to visualize things and embodies many of the same skills needed to create a 3D rendering.
“If you want a career in architectural visualization, most of it can be learned on your own. However, it’s very helpful to have somewhat of a background in either architecture, photography, animation, visual effects, and then whatever you are still missing you can learn on your own.”
