Designblendz’s Director of Architecture, Scott Woodruff, sat down to discuss a current project and provide updates on what state the structure is in. Scott opens his interview by stating that “130 Shurs Lane is quite an interesting project,” with a laugh.
The architect then goes on to explain that this project was “interesting” due to its long, rectangular lot placed between two streets. Although the oddly-shaped lot may have posed a challenge to the designers, Woodruff expressed that he was thankful for the opportunity to create a unique façade that blends in with its surrounding community. What makes this structure special is its two-car garage placed in the rear of the home. The architect chuckled as he explained how great it is to have your own parking in Manayunk, where the project is located. Manayunk is also home to the Designblendz office- needless to say, Woodruff is familiar with the parking situation in the area.
Scott then takes us back to the very beginning of the design process for this project. He states that their team started out with a design that was similar to what the developer wanted, and then made some revisions. The revisions made were to enhance the traditional style of the project, while also adding a touch of modern flair.
130 Shurs Lane is currently under construction, and the Designblendz team is working as oversight, and helping the contractor in any way possible.
Scott closes his interview by sharing how he feels at this stage of the process, “It’s really fun for us to see this project come to life, as the architects seeing someone else build the project.”
