The residence at Martha St was formally used as a storage facility. Keeping with an industrial chic aesthetic the building was designed into an open concept residence. Metal decking that was scrap from the original building was reclaimed and included in the exterior facade design. New windows with a warm wood panel greets pedestrians letting in ample amounts of light to the interior space. The original CMU walls were left exposed giving a texture to the interior environment which contrasts the smooth polished concrete floors. Designing a building around an industrial chic style is mainly about leaving the structure exposed as well as creating interesting contrasting textures between building materials. This allows for the new construction to stand out from the existing construction of the building.
